I can’t help but think nature is an exhibitionist and as a photographer that makes me a voyeur. This is particularly true when I think of the raw beauty of Point Lobos. The landscape, the trees, the rocks and the coastline beam, impossible to take your eyes off. Truly an inspirational location where you’ll find beauty right underfoot, if you can divert your attention from the larger magnificent scenery. C
The results are in for the Buying Prints from Your Favorite Photographers 2009 blog project. Turn out similar to last year was small, but given the economy was worse this year than last I’m happy with the degree of participation. If you decide to pick up a print, book, calendar, etc. before the end of the year feel free to drop me an email and I’ll be happy to add an addendum to the results below. In this
You know that feeling when you were a kid on Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/<insert holiday here> morning and you were up before everyone else waiting in anticipation to get/open your gift(s)? While visiting Glacier National Park earlier in the year I had that feeling every morning. Much like Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/<insert holiday here> morning I woke up too early on the day I took this photo of first light
One of the more pleasant experiences I’ve had in the field recently was having the luxury of sitting out under the stars at Mobius Arch for 9 hours. Over 7 hours of that time was letting the following long exposure run, while the other two were spent capturing alternate perspectives as seen in Mobius Arch & Stars I and Mobius Arch & Stars V. So what does one do to keep busy during a 7 hour exposure*? (
One of the more interesting places in Death Valley National Park is a place called the Racetrack. This dry lake bed is home to a fascinating phenomenon of large rocks that seem to inexplicably move and leave tracks in the dried mud of the playa. The current theory is that as the lake bed becomes wet from the rain and as strong winds blow through the valley the rocks slowly move. No matter how the tracks are made thes
After a brief trip to New York for Photo Plus Expo I’m back and I couldn’t help, but publish another Zabriskie Point photo. This was taken earlier than my last Zabriskie Point Sunrise – Death Valley National Park. My recent workshop to Death Valley was well timed as lingering clouds from dissipating storms made the photogenic landscape even more photogenic. In addition sunset and sunrise colors were incre
This past weekend I was able to share an amazing sunrise with a client at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park. The scene as it unfolded was amazing to witness. Clouds formed unexpectedly in the extremely dry air and were illuminated with an unreal pink color. I couldn’t imagine a better morning to photograph this iconic location. Mother Nature never fails to impress! Photo Info: Canon 1Ds Mark III, 2
The Alabama Hills in California is one of the cooler locations to explore and Mobius Arch is the formation to photograph when you’re in the area. Its abstract form and relatively large arch size for this area is a fascinating sight to see let alone photograph. This photo of Mobius Arch with an arm of the Milky Way stretching high into the sky has become a personal favorite of mine. There’s something magic
