Another perspective of California Oaks in the fog. This was taken the same day as Oaks In The Fog and Oaks In The Fog II. I think this may be my favorite of the trio. I know this won’t appeal to many as a front and center show piece, but I like the subtlety of the scene. Perhaps this is destined for stock photography, but I have hopes that this will appeal to those with an eye for fine art photography as well.
Another perspective of California Oaks in the fog. This was taken the same day as Oaks In The Fog. As I explored the area not only did I find the twisted form of the trees an interesting subject, but the juxtaposition of form became an intriguing concept to experiment with. This is among my favorite of layering the form of the trees into one composition. [tags]California, landscape, photo, photography, oak,Â
Weather conditions single handedly can make or break landscape photos. While out photographing California Oak trees the other week the fog rolling through the area set a great mood and enabled me to capture photos with a lot of “atmosphere”. It’s important to note that fog not only mutes lighting, but it mutes contrast as well. Depending on your photographic style foggy conditions provide photograph
Monday I took the day off to get out and get some photography under my belt. I was joined by a good friend of mine who introduced me to some new areas to photograph iconic California Oak trees. During this shoot I got several good sho

One might think that there is some physical explanation as to why the moon is larger when low on the horizon, but its actually a visual illusion where your brain is playing a trick on you. This illusion is aptly called the “Moon Illusion“. This illusion is incredibly well explained in the following video: So how do people
It’s Monday and I have a confession to make… I cannot get enough of photographing full moons. Even more special are Blue Moons or Super Moons. Ask a photographer what makes a great image and they’re sure to say “it’s all about the light” and this is true, but as a nature photographer my personal bias is a full moon and any foreground object (with great light of course) makes for a
One of the biggest challenges I faced while in Yosemite photographing moonbows was ensuring that my camera would not be ruined by the heavy mist at the base of Yosemite Falls. The mist was so heavy that it was equivalent to being in a moderate rain shower with wind. I was very fortunate to receive a ThinkTank Hydrophobia 70-200 rain-cover just before my trip and it sure helped keep my camera dry in trying conditions
This Weeks Friday Freebie iPad Wallpaper: Foggy Field Friday Freebie features an image to liven up your iPad display with images from my travels… all for free. I’ve always found it fascinating that nature can be so complex, yet so simple. Fog has a magical way of making this observation come to life. The rolling coastal hills of California provide a great space to explore on cold foggy mornings. Seemingly
