If you’re ever in Costa Rica I highly recommend visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The highland jungle is often shrouded in clouds and the habitat, landscape and wildlife are incredible. One of the big attractions in this area is the Selvatura Park Zip Line. Their zip line canopy tour provides a means to see the jungle like no other. The 16 or so zip lines travel through and over the jungle canopy. I
About this photo…. This feisty swan came in for a taste of my camera. He eventually got my lens. No harm no fowl. Pun intended LOL. Photographing animals with a fish-eye lens is always an adventure. The focal distance is so short the subject can be with in inches of the lens and still be in focus. I was aiming for more majestic images and got some during better lighting conditions, but this photo just makes me
Conservatory of Flowers Valentines Day Lighting in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco It’s been a while since I’ve photographed the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, but this past Valentines Day I was able to stop by and was pleasantly surprised to see the dome of the building glowing a fitting color. I wonder if they’ll make lighting of the dome a regular occurance like the lighting of the
Golden Gate Bridge & Surf at Sunset The interesting thing about San Francisco is that summer time weather is never during summer. It’s in the spring and fall. During the summer its cold and foggy. I ramble about this because I often see so many tourists on the bridge in shorts and t-shirts during the summer and it brings a tear to my eye. Ok maybe it doesn’t bring me to tears, but I feel for them. I s
This photo could sum up the past couple of weeks nicely. Life has been coming at me fast and furious as of late. Taxes, a variety of projects and recently my dog Moe (dressed as Batdog) having some unexplained seizures. All is well with Moe fortunately, but I’m keeping an eye on him. Other than being severely sleep deprived staying up with him late at night… we’re both faring well. The same could be
Tuesday evening began with a beautiful moonrise here in San Francisco. For once I was available to take advantage of this event and the weather was nice enough to get out to try and photograph the moonrise over downtown. For the astronomy inclined I found out this wasn’t the right time of year for the photo I wanted, but before I realized this I crossed paths with two local photographers. First while setting up
Back in late August I got a chance to walk through the Central Library in downtown Seattle. I would have missed this had Chase Jarvis not been so emphatic in pointing out to me that it was a must visit. During my walk through I worked my way up to the highest point that I could and found a small platform to look down to the first floor. If I recall correctly it was about 8 stories up and looking down at the 1st floor
It’s been a great year for photography, perhaps even better than last year, and as 2008 nears its end I thought it would be fun to select my favorite photos from the year. I had a tough time narrowing things down so here they are… Honorable Mentions: Honorable Mention #5: Pike Place Market One thing I love about taking travel photos is the constant challenge to find a new perspective. While I got odd stares from pass
