The telephoto effect, created aptly when using longer focal length lenses, creates an altered perspective where distances are compressed or shortened. The net effect makes objects, that may be quite some distance apart, look close together. The longer the focal length the more pronounced this effect. An example of this can be seen in my photograph “San Francisco” where the Golden Gate Bridge and city skyl
Ever wonder how to photograph wind? It’s a tough concept to effectively capture. While on my honeymoon in Kauai, Hawaii I saw an opportunity one late evening. The right combination of subjects presented themselves including partly cloudy skies, palm trees and a firm wind. I ended up opting to use the moon to backlight a palm tree blowing in the wind to give the scene a little more of a dramatic flare. [tags]Haw
Something I meant to share last Friday that ties in my previous posts on copyrights. The following case both exemplifies the impact of copyrighting and not copyrighting your photography. Appeals Court Confirms Photographer’s Rights in Case – imaginginfo.com Amazing to think that there could be any claim that using an image in a collage is acceptable after agreeing to a previous licensing agreement definin
In late May, Memorial Day weekend in fact, I had the opportunity to attend the Art Wolfe Creative Session workshop held here in San Francisco. I had a great time, but before I jump into the review to keep things transparent… I talk with Art every once in a blue moon and have gone out to shoot with him from time to time. The initial Zooomr launch was attempted March 13th with occasional
This weekend I had the opportunity to watch “This Film Is Not Yet Rated” and I really enjoyed it. Although focused on movies and the film industry the topics of censorship, copyright and new technology are quite relevant to photographers. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend renting it. One of the first thoughts I had after watching the movie was my realization that I had a love-hate relationsh
For those of you that are unaware today is the first day that the Library of Congress is accepting applications to Beta test a new electronic submission system. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be selected to take part. It will definitely make my life easier and will speed the process by which I register my photographic work. It should also be noted that one of the benefits of electronic submissio
There’s not an exotic story behind this image. Fond of the color, textures and lines I decided to photograph these rocks. In post-processing I decided, as much as I liked the color, it was the textures and lines that carried this image.
