Camera family that is… After much saving and obsessing I’ve added a Canon 1Ds Mark III to my camera bag as of last week. If you picked up that I was posting less frequently last week now you know why. I’ve been spending my limited free time reading up on the manual and taking test shots here and there. The latest being the image below of the Golden Gate Bridge as seen from Baker Beach. Many of you k

January 15th was the big day at MacWorld Expo 2008 and as always I made my annual pilgrimage. Apple is doing well these days and as a result the number of vendors attending the expo seemed to be at an all time high. I can’t recall a MacWorld that was as large and well attended as this one. On the other side I thought this was one of the poorest run MacWorld events. Pre-registration hardly yielded much benefit.
Check out the epic 2010 Mavericks Surf Photos taken February 13, 2010 Saturday was the 2008 Mavericks Surf Contest and I had the opportunity to photograph it from the shoulder of the surf break. The end of 2007 was full of “best of” lists, but over the past year I’ve found that many readers of the JMG-Galleries blog are incredibly talented photographers in their own right and deserved their own “best of photo” attention. If you’re in the area and are thinking of witnessing the spectacle for yourself read up on access restrictions and alternate locations to view the surf contest such as at AT&T Park on the big screen. Odds are unless you have a mammoth lens and can tolerate sitting in mud on a precariou
There are two days left to submit your best photos from 2007 in my third photography blog project aptly titled “Your Best Photos From 2007”. To date I’ve received a good number of submissions. If you’re sitting on the fence about whether to take part or not now is the time to act. These projects are a great learning tool and often help introduce photographers to each other, new subjects and ne
Yet another perspective of California Oaks in the fog. This was taken the same day as Oaks In The Fog, Oaks In The Fog II and Oaks In The Fog III. One interesting effect the fog provides when it is thick enough is to veil the dimension to your subject. California Oaks are a very challenging subject to photograph as the branches jut everywhere and lining up an area of compositional focus can be difficult. For this sho
