One of the best modern traditions in San Francisco is the Bring Your Own Big Wheel event held every Easter Sunday afternoon. Having photographed BYOBW 2007, BYOBW 2008 and BYOBW 2010 you’d think there would be nothing new to see, but in fact each year it keeps getting better. Last year the die hards endured cold San Francisco rain, but this year the sun came out making for a great day of tricycle carnage and wh
Yet another urban wildlife encounter ends in death. Yesterday, Wednesday March 29, 2011, a mountain lion was spotted in Redwood City and killed versus tranquilized and relocated. This time I was able to be on site with in minutes of the sad conclusion to this urban wildlife encounter to capture a few photographs. The last time I wrote on an urban wildlife killing, Two Coyotes Killed In Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
San Francisco is an easy town to fall in love with. The views never cease to amaze and the weather conditions give the city a new look each and every day. No look is more dramatic or romantic as a blanket of fog laying over the bay and around the iconic Golden Gate Bridge & skyline of San Francisco. This photo was taken this past February when lighting and weather conditions were perfect, The two frequently are n
This is one of my favorite skyline photographs of downtown San Francisco. The pre-dawn light in combination with the glow of the buildings across downtown made for a special capture. As it turns out over the years this has been a favorite of others who have visited my web site as well. First featured on my web site in 2004 as part of my San Francisco Labyrinths write-up it’s been viewed hundreds of thousands of
There is no canvas more beautiful than that of the ocean at sunset or sunrise. To the untrained eye it may all seem to be the same, but upon closer examination no one view is ever the same. I consider myself lucky in that every evening, barring the presence of fog, I’m treated to a view of a new sunset. While the view from home is nice, it’s never as nice as the cliffside view from Lands End here in San F
In 2010 I had a great time behind the camera and I was fortunate to have been present for some amazing moments including the birth of my son (the ultimate experience). While I’ve ranked my best photos in years past (best photos of 2009, best photos of 2008 and best photos of 2007) this year I’m finding it impossible to do. In fact by doing so I may just end up in the dog house as you’ll soon disco
This time of year I really cherish the fog here in San Francisco and am always looking for interesting photo opportunities. One of my favorite subjects to photograph is the coastal fog as it envelops the trees. If I’m not photographing this phenomenon I’m often telling my wife how I love the look of the fog in the trees as we go on our walks together. This has become a running joke between us as I say it
Every so often the sunsets in San Francisco hardly seem real. What amazes me is how beautifully the entire city will light up from such light shows. San Francisco… always a humbling experience with every viewing. [tags]photography, travel, San Francisco, California, cityscape, stock photo[/tags]
