As I prepare for a fast approaching presentation on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge I discovered a hidden gem missed in my earlier screening of my trip photos. Some how I looked past this image when it is the best double rainbow photo of the trip. Looking at this image makes me long to be back in the Arctic… during the summer. The last few evenings I’ve been forcing myself to break out of my routine to get down to the beach at sunset. Around this time of year San Francisco has its summer and this evenings summer sun was worth enjoying. For those of you that aren’t familiar with San Francisco… the normal summer timeframe is often foggy and cold especially at the beach.

Last year I had an amazing time discovering a new must see portion of San Francisco, the Lands End Labyrinth. Over time I got a chance to meet with the creator of the labyrinth, Eduardo Aguilar, interview him, see him in action building a new labyrinth and take part in one of his solstice events centered around the labyrinth. I snuck this shot in while taking a stroll with my wife (of 24 hours) on my mini-honeymoon. My wife isn’t the most patient so I had to rush to get this one in. As soon as I saw this scene I knew I had to photograph it though and for as much grief as I got about taking the photo it was later confided in me that this photo is now one of her favorites.
For those just finding my site for the first time I have been documenting a recent trip to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with in the “Articles” section of my web site. Updates include daily highlights and images. So far 10 days have been posted of the 12 days in the field. The trip was centered around the filming of an episode of “Travels to the Edge with Art Wolfe”, a TV program / Natur
