Below is the next image in my “Oaks In The Fog” photo series. See my previous perspectives of California Oaks in the fog in the following posts Oaks In The Fog, Oaks In The Fog II, Oaks In The Fog III and Oaks In The Fog IV. Black and white photography isn’t my normal forte, but it seemed to work exceptionally well here adding to the atmosphere of the scene. The degree of contrast between the high
Join me for a 3-day photography tour and workshop in Yosemite Valley on “Leap Day” February 29, 2008. Wouldn’t you rather be in beautiful Yosemite taking photos on your extra day of the year? During this 3-day workshop we’ll explore the valley floor, classic lookouts and discuss intimate nature/landscape photography. Yet another perspective of California Oaks in the fog. This was taken the same day as Oaks In The Fog, Oaks In The Fog II and Oaks In The Fog III. One interesting effect the fog provides when it is thick enough is to veil the dimension to your subject. California Oaks are a very challenging subject to photograph as the branches jut everywhere and lining up an area of compositional focus can be difficult. For this sho
In mid-December I made a 1-day pit stop to Yosemite and took very few photos. This photo of Half Dome’s reflection in the cold Merced River water was one of the few taken. I like this photo for two reasons. First the lighting on Half Dome… the otherwise gray formation takes on a completely different look at sunset. Second the transformation of form created by the ripple passing through the water. I can&
Another perspective of California Oaks in the fog. This was taken the same day as Oaks In The Fog and Oaks In The Fog II. I think this may be my favorite of the trio. I know this won’t appeal to many as a front and center show piece, but I like the subtlety of the scene. Perhaps this is destined for stock photography, but I have hopes that this will appeal to those with an eye for fine art photography as well.
It’s been a great year for photography and as the year closes out I thought it would be fun to select my favorite photos from the year. I had a tough time narrowing things down so here they are… Honorable Mentions: Honorable Mention #6: Los Angeles Sunrise This was one of the most dynamic cityscape I took this year, but as much as I liked it compared to some other photos taken this year it didn’t ma
Weather conditions single handedly can make or break landscape photos. While out photographing California Oak trees the other week the fog rolling through the area set a great mood and enabled me to capture photos with a lot of “atmosphere”. It’s important to note that fog not only mutes lighting, but it mutes contrast as well. Depending on your photographic style foggy conditions provide photograph
As we near Christmas I thought a winter photo might be in order. Taken in Yosemite National Park, earlier in the year, these trees lack the decorations we’ve come to expect around Christmas time, but natures patterns and textures provide their own rich decoration. Although I’m out of pocket at the moment and am on a shoot before the holidays I thought I would wish everyone a Merry Christmas. View More Pho
