There is no canvas more beautiful than that of the ocean at sunset or sunrise. To the untrained eye it may all seem to be the same, but upon closer examination no one view is ever the same. I consider myself lucky in that every evening, barring the presence of fog, I’m treated to a view of a new sunset. While the view from home is nice, it’s never as nice as the cliffside view from Lands End here in San F
Sometimes there is nothing better than rediscovering an old photo. I had this slide (yes slide) of Haleakala Crater in Haleakala National Park , Hawaii drum scanned back in 2004. At the time I took this photo with Fuji Provia 400 film as it had great response for night photography and seemed to be the right fit for my effort to photograph the crater under a full moon. In 2010 I had a great time behind the camera and I was fortunate to have been present for some amazing moments including the birth of my son (the ultimate experience). While I’ve ranked my best photos in years past (best photos of 2009, best photos of 2008 and best photos of 2007) this year I’m finding it impossible to do. In fact by doing so I may just end up in the dog house as you’ll soon disco
This time of year I really cherish the fog here in San Francisco and am always looking for interesting photo opportunities. One of my favorite subjects to photograph is the coastal fog as it envelops the trees. If I’m not photographing this phenomenon I’m often telling my wife how I love the look of the fog in the trees as we go on our walks together. This has become a running joke between us as I say it
For your enjoyment a photo of the simple beauty of the desert. While most focus on the iconic dunes of White Sands I’ve grown increasingly fascinated by the islands of life that exist in the meadows between the dunes. A closer look reveals the relationship of the plants to the land and wildlife. My visit to White Sands inspired a couple articles that were recently published on the Digital Photography School si
Sunset light falling on the beautiful California coastline at Jug Handle State Natural Reserve just north of Mendocino, California. I snuck this photo in while taking a walk with my wife on our mini-honeymoon a little over 5 years ago. Miraculously I stayed out of the doghouse while taking photos on our hike. With such amazing light falling on the California coastal landscape it was impossible to resist taking a phot

And I a color photographer… it is nirvana. Color has taken possession of me; no longer do I have to chase after it. I know that it has hold of me forever… Color and I are one. I am a painter. – Paul Klee [tags]photography, fine art, abstract, landscape, nature[/tags]
