One of the many things to love about Yosemite valley is that once you get past those big grand landscapes the valley starts to speak to you in subtle ways. Heading home on my way out of the valley this reflection caught my eye. This scene could have easily been overlooked for a view of a near by waterfall or a dramatic valley wall photo, but it was the slow meandering flow of the Merced river that caught my eye. Nothing dramatic… no rapids, no fast paced movement of water, no valley walls, no amazing alpenglow… only the slow peaceful flow of water and reflected fall color. A very transient moment and one well savored.

Beautiful image Jim, and you’re so right – Yosemite has so much to offer beyond the grand iconic scenes.
Thanks for sharing. I often find it difficult to get past the big-ness of things and get to the heart the subtle beauty that underlies it. You have done that well here.
Wow, what a beauty. I love the colors and their unusual combination. This is one of the “gifts of nature” that I write about. This kind of work my father loved to do in Yosemite, even though what we see most are his medium and large scenes. The Merced River is such an incredibly gorgeous photographic subject.
Beautiful image Jim. The pastels of the water are so serene.
Thanks for sharing this Jim. I get to visit the valley so rarely, that when I’m there, I find myself almost frantically photographing the icons rather than slowing down and really looking at the details of the place. Next time it’s going to be different!
That’s the best of Yosemite National Park: Famous waterfalls (Yosemite Falls), rock formations (Half Dome), and historical achievements.
