I’m back after spending two weeks traveling across Switzerland. Along the way I made some new friends including this goat who with the rest of her buddies decided I made for a great high altitude salt lick.
Not pictured is a great view of the Matterhorn above Zermatt, Switzerland that I had been taking in at my 7,600 foot resting/lookout spot. While taking in the view a herd of goats off in the distance decided that I was worth checking out as I sat down. Some were more shy than others, but this particular goat was a BIG fan. What I can’t relay adequately in any one photos is the sound of the Swiss bells on each goat clanking as they approached. I got quite a few photos of these characters in action including my “big fan” here. Expect to see more as I recover from my jet lag.

Looking forward to seeing more and reading more about the trip Jim. Hilarious shot. BTW, what does goat breath smell like? 🙂
Hey Jim,
Welcome back! I like forward to seeing more photos from your trip, it sounded like a fun one.
This photo is hilarious! Glad you were able to make such close friends so quickly!
Ron
@Mark Thanks… I’m looking forward to sharing more photos. Surprisingly goat breath smells better than what you’d smell in a local bar or restaurant for that matter. I’ve become a little spoiled here in California with the smoking ban in public buildings and restaurants. Tons of smokers in Switzerland.

@Ron Glad you liked. I was lucky this trip to make friends so easily. Just after this they started up the mountain… I think with Michael Phelps 😛 Actually this was probably the one place I was guaranteed not to run into him or any celebrities for that matter. In fact I think I ran into one person on the mountain this day… such a nice break from the crowds in other locations I’ve visited as of late.
I can’t wait to see the rest of your Switzerland photos. I went on a Europe trip in high school (1997) and wish I was into photography.
Welcome back!
@Bryan Thanks! I spent a great deal of time behind the camera on this trip… more than most. As soon as I have some of the better shots identified you can expect to see them posted.

I need some information on Oberhalsie goats in Switzerland. That is where they originated I am told. However, I am having trouble finding pictures of the Oberhalsie region with goats.Â
