One thing is certain, wildlife encounters invigorate the soul. Witnessing wildlife in it’s natural environment is nothing short of awe inspiring. During my last day in Yosemite this weekend I was lucky enough to encounter a Bobcat walking through snow filled meadows and light brush. This was but one of many photographs from that encounter.

Jim: I’m envious that you were in The Valley last weekend – it has been a few weeks now since I was last there.
My own bobcat story is sort of funny. On that last trip I was standing on the “swinging bridge” over the Merced talking to another photographer and shooting some snowy scenes. I glanced across the bridge but my mind was elsewhere and I barely registered that “a cat” was on the bridge. I think that subconsciously registered it as a housecat but barely paid any attention and went back to my work.
A moment later “the cat” passed – about a foot behind me – and the other photographer yelled, “hey, a bobcat!”
Can’t believe that I missed photographing THAT one! Would have needed a wide-angle (or a macro? 😉 though…

Wow! What a treat and photo Jim!
And I forgot to include: “Nice shot. I like the “pose” of the bobcat, its position in the frame, and the surroundings.”
Dan
Awesome shot Jim. Takes more than luck to get these shots, you have to be ready, you have to know your camera, and yes, you have to be lucky with the incredible lighting. Thanks for sharing.
@Dan That is too funny. Weird how our brains work to identify & associate things around us to what we’re used to seeing. I had a similar reaction while in the Arctic with my wolf encounter. My first reaction was “neat… a coyote” and then a split second later I consciously realized it was not a coyote but a wolf. That is pretty bold for a wild cat to walk by on a narrow bridge. Let’s hope there is a next time for you.
@Ron Thanks for the comment and compliment.
@Tony Thanks. It took quite a bit of work to get this shot. I was able to get several others with a lot of persistence and effort to track the cat. The effort paid off as I was able to photograph the Bobcat in a variety of poses and settings.
Beautiful creature, super image Jim.
I’ve never seen a bobcat in Yosemite. Your shot makes me want to go up there and look for ’em! Great catch.
