While driving across town here in San Francisco I happened upon this trio of Jack O’lanterns. With the sun fading and the Cape Cod-esque facade to the home I couldn’t resist photographing them. Seeing these photos again reminded me that there are only 7 more days before the trick or treaters come out.

This is great man. I love this type of stuff! Were you across the street in order to keep the lines straight?
Thanks Richard. I ended up using a longer focal length for this, but I wasn’t that far away. I ended up taking the shot from both sides of the street.
Do a lot of kids come trick or treating at your house? Hardly anyone comes to our house as we are on a private street that says no trespassing at the front. It would be kind of fun though to hand out more candy and perhaps greet them with a snap of the shutter.
Unfortunately we don’t get many trick or treaters where we live. There are more kids on the block now, but even still most parents work late and don’t get home on time to take the kids out. It’s a sad sign of the times.
Testing out your new subscription feature. I’ll let you know once I find out.
I agree on the sad times. America is too consumed with capitalism and too little emphasis on the important stuff like family and relationships. No wonder why some cities are full of gangs. The parents have to work two jobs to make ends meet and the kids are neglected. Add that to trying to fit in at school and it’s not too hard to see why they do that.
Regardless of the work issue and making ends meet. Halloween forever changed in my youth when people started putting razor blades in candy. Halloween is drastically different now… at least in large metropolitan areas
We stopped buying candy for the trick-or-treaters after two years with not one kid showing up…. We left lights on, put out decorations, etc. And we’re in a pretty decent neighborhood. The razor blade thing is one of those semi urban legends. It probably happened once or twice out of the gazillion treats actually given out. I personally think people are way more scared than reality would dictate. They fear a razor blade in an apple at Halloween, then drive the family home after consuming martinis all night at grandma’s….
man that’s too bad. If I have kids, I’m going to raise them the right way and take them out trick or treating dammit! 🙂
John sad that there aren’t more kids in our area. Unfortunately as a kid the razor thing did happen where I grew up and hospitals put in place a free x-ray program. It’s been a while since this type of thing has happened so it has faded in the memory of people. None the less there is an air of paranoia still. That has been slow to fade it would seem. Hopefully the integrity and fun of Halloween can be restored in the future. It’d be a shame to lose such a great tradition.
Jim, this happened in Thousand Oaks? People weren’t as cynical over here as we don’t have much crime, but my mom always made sure to inspect the candy and toss out anything suspicious. I’m sure it was nothing though.
