SABLE-3, Southern Alberta Balloon Launch Experiment #3, is a very impressive experiment in which a specially prepared point and shoot camera was attached to a helium filled balloon. The results are amazing. The camera was set-up with a tracking device and configured to snap a photo every minute. In 2 1/2 hours the balloon reached maximum altitude of 22 1/2 miles, the edge of our atmosphere! The write up and photos are impressive. This is definitely worth checking out.

That’s pretty amazing. Their final shot is quite breath taking. Quite an achievement it only took 2 1/2 hours to get that high.
Hey, that’s hardly any higher than Joseph Kittinger’s record-setting parachute jump. 😉

Donncha I was impressed the ascent was so fast as well.
John I did notknow about Joseph Kittinger until now. Thanks for the link. I really enjoyed reading about him. I think as a kid I might have seen that Life magazine cover.
