Two announcements that I’m happy to share:
1. I will be leading a PhotoWalk here in San Francisco from the Ferry Building to North Beach as part of Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk on July 18, 2009. I invite you to sign up and join me for an evening of urban adventure. Be quick as San Francisco PhotoWalks have been filling up super quick and there are only 50 spots available. The cost is of course free.

2. I’m giving away yet another BorrowLenses.com lens rental.
Borrowlenses.com has been kind enough to make available a free week long lens rental (excluding super telephoto lenses) to be given away here on the JMG-Galleries blog.
In order to be eligible you need to:
- Contest open to only those in the US. Lens rentals cannot be shipped to other countries.
- The lucky winner will place the order online at BorrowLenses.com and they request a credit card number to cover the risk of a no-return. They will not charge your credit card. BorrowLenses.com is a reputable business but if you don’t feel comfortable with this condition, please don’t enter
- The offer excludes super telephoto lenses and pro camera bodies.
HOW TO ENTER
- Peruse Borrowlenses.com to find something you’d be interested to rent. Feel free to let me know what catches your eye. I won’t hold you to this if you win. I’m just curious.
Note: Available lenses are for Nikon and Canon cameras. Not a Nikon or Canon user consider their lighting and tripod equipment. - Add a comment to this post with the item you’d be most interested to rent.
Note: Tweeting ” Win a free BorrowLenses.com lens rental ( via @borrowlenses ) Follow @jimgoldstein for a chance to win http://bit.ly/UGMeZ ” on Twitter is worth one entry to the raffle.
For an additional entry to the raffle…
- In your comment here point me to a post on your blog, Twitter stream, or Flickr photostream referencing this giveaway and Borrowlenses.com
Deadline: June 3rd at Midnight PST
The winner will be randomly chosen and announced no later than June 4th.
Thanks for taking part and good luck!

If I were to win the borrowedlenses.com contest…I would rent the Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 lens for our upcoming camping trip to White Mountains in New Hampshire.
I’m going to the USC-Ohio State football game in September. While I normally shoot with an 18-200mm I would absolutely love to use a Nikon 200-400mm f/4 G-AFS ED-IF VR for the weekend. Based on the ticket-prices, I’m likely going to be sitting way up in the nosebleeds so the extra 400mm will come in quite handy.
I bookmarked borrowedlenses.com – what a great idea! Thanks!
Morning (here on the East side), Jim!
Now that you mention it, I have been meaning to check out the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS. Had been meaning to try the f2.8, but the f4 is good enough for Art Wolfe, so it’s good enough for me!
Cheers,
-K
I would love to try out the 14-24
http://www.borrowlenses.com/product/nikon_wide_angle/Nikon_14-24_2.8
or the 85 PC-E
http://www.borrowlenses.com/product/nikon_micro/nikon_85mm_PC-E
Thanks Jim!
I would love to try out the Nikon 24mm f/3.5D ED PC-E, and take it to some red rock park (probably Bryce if it stays hot) and do some BIG pictures after I turn in my book to the printer for a GIANT celebration.
Have fun on the Photowalk. PhotowalkingUtah has nabbed two time slots for Salt Lake and West Jordan, I think both are nearly full now. It will be interesting to see how many new people we get from the Kelby PR machine.
I am very interested in trying out the Canon 16-35 f/2.8. I’m happy with most everything else in my bag, but after making the jump to full frame I am without an ultra wide lens that fits.
BorrowLenses.com is a great outfit. We enjoyed their support of Photowalking Utah 2009.
If I were to win I would want the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR AF-S. I’ve been just dieing to get my hands on this lens for a trial. I would take it outdoors for some wildlife/nature shots.
Still have my eye on that Nikkor 10.5mm Fisheye. Though I just noticed that 8mm Sigma Fisheye that I hadn’t seen before. I think either of those would be fun for a weekend in the city.
Will be in the US for a week for a conference and would love a special lens to play with. Would love to have Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS for walking around the vineyards, and shooting at workshops. If I had the money I’d own it, since I don’t and if I don’t win, maybe i’ll rent one for the week anyways.
I would love to rent the 17mm TS-E from canon..
Wow, this would be great. I’ve always enjoyed tilt-shift photography, so I would love to have the Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift lens for a week! I would be shooting everything I could get my hands on that week. From insects to headshots.
I’d like to try out the Tamron SP AF17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD for Canon; i was thinking of buying it and like to see how it is first. http://www.borrowlenses.com/product/canon_standard/Tamron_17-50mm_canon
Hello there! Im thinking of upgrading to a full frame Nikon body and would love to test out the (Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S) as this would most likely be my full time lens. I have a dx body but still want to get a feel for the lens. Crossing my fingers!!

Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro AF-S VR
So I could finally get real high quality macro shots, with out using extension tubes.
I have been really interested in trying out a lens baby composer on my Canon 40D. It looks like a fun lens that you can do some interesting stuff with.
I have been wanting to try out the Canon 100mm 2.8 macro lens. The main thing I want to use it for is to retake all the pictures of orchids I took with the 70-200 2.8 to compare. That would help me decide if I should buy the macro lens.
Personally, I had a great experience renting the 300mm f4 and the 1.4 converter from BorrowLenses, so I was happy to mention your contest on Twitter — but only since I could do it without exactly quoting you. 🙂
I’d love to try out a Canon 300mm f/4 or a 35mm f/1.4 if I were to win!
I’d like to have more time using a Nikon 24mm f/3.5D ED PC-E before deciding if I want to purchase it.

I would love to try out the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8. Right now the 24-70 is the widest lens in my collection.
http://twitter.com/BellaBoudoir#/favorites?user=BellaBoudoir
I really really want to try out the 24 mkII because i love the look and feel of Canon primes and I’d like something wider for the getting ready shots at weddings!
http://twitter.com/labrisaphoto
I am interested in the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L – but if I got the chance – I would love to try out the body of the 5D MK II. Sweet!
Awesome! Thanks Jim. Would love to try out the 14-24mm f/2.8. I’ve blogged about this on my blog over at http://idicphoto.blogspot.com/.
I would love to try out the Nikkor 300mm f/4 AF-S (or the Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 APO DG if the 300mm isn’t available).
http://twitter.com/mand3rz/status/2008743057
Going to Paris in the fall and wanted to tryout the nikon D700 and 24-70 lens combo!
Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX (Canon mount)… I’ve been thinking for a while about experimenting with something wider than my 18-55.
Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR–I want to see if it’s capabilities make it worth the price.
Jim –
joined your photowalk – looking forward to meeting you in real life.
if i win, i’d borrow 105mm macro for some wildflower shooting in Yosemite.
i also posted a tweet about it – http://twitter.com/ivanmakarov/status/2013075550
What I want is the Canon 400 f/5.6. Unfortunately, it is in the super telephoto category. So, my next choices would be the 180mm macro or the 17mm tilt / shift.
I would love to borrow the Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens!
I think that I would personally have to go for the Canon 85mm f1.2 or the 135mm f2. I am itching to try those out compared to my other current lenses.
Just a question for you Jim, how often do you rent lenses? What is the lens you rent most often?
I also blogged about this contest here http://alancwilliams.com/2009/06/03/jim-goldstein-lens-rental-giveaway/.
Thanks Jim!
Congratulations Andre Maltais you’re the winner of a free lens rental! Andre was good enough to take part on Twitter @maltphoto

Thanks everyone for taking part. Everyone’s enthusiasm behind these contests has made it easier for me to continue holding them with BorrowLenses.com. Stay tuned I’ll put another one of these contests together soon.
I have no idea what lens I’d want to borrow.. it would depend on what week it happened.. could be a wide zoom.. could be a macro.. could be the push-pull 100-400 zoom if available.
I’d also like to borrow a calendar to realize that its not June 3rd anymore.. but June 4th LOL
I’d love to borrow either the 24-70 2.8 Nikon, or the 17-55 2.8 Nikon. Both are pretty awesome and I’m considering buying but really want to take them for a spin first.
THANKS!!
